Some of the best party moments happen when someone grabs the mic. Karaoke has a way of turning a room full of spectators into a crowd of supporters, hype-people, and surprise vocal talents. That energy is exactly what we wanted to bring into Party Post Live.

🎉 What Is Karaoke Mode?

Karaoke Mode is a new feature that lets hosts run a full karaoke session directly inside any Party Post room. Guests browse songs, request to sing, and join a live queue — all from their phones. The host controls who goes next, and the audience can score each performance in real time.

No karaoke machine required. No printed song binders. Just phones and a speaker.

🎉 How Song Search Works

Finding the right song is half the fun. Karaoke Mode integrates with Spotify so guests can search millions of tracks by title, artist, or lyric. Each result shows the album artwork, artist name, and track title so there's no guessing.

When a guest picks a song, their request goes into the queue. If the host has approval mode enabled, they'll review and accept or reject requests before the guest is added to the lineup. If approval is off, requests go straight into the queue.

🎉 The Guest Experience

Here's what it looks like from a guest's perspective:

  1. 🎈Browse and request — Open the Karaoke tab, search for a song, and tap to request it
  2. 🎈Track your status — A personal status card shows whether your request is pending, accepted, or up next
  3. 🎈Get notified — When you're next in line, you'll see a prominent "You're Up Next!" alert
  4. 🎈Perform — The host advances the queue and you're on
  5. 🎈Rate others — After each performance, a rating modal pops up so you can score the singer on a 5-star scale

Guests can submit song requests before the host even starts the karaoke session, so the queue is ready to go from the first note.

🎉 Host Controls

The host has full control over the session from the Karaoke tab in their room dashboard:

  • 🎈Approve or reject incoming song requests
  • 🎈Drag to reorder the queue however you want
  • 🎈Remove someone from the lineup
  • 🎈Advance to the next performer or skip the current one
  • 🎈Start, pause, and resume the karaoke session at any time
  • 🎈View stats including a ranked list of performers with average crowd scores

You can also configure settings during room setup: toggle crowd scoring on or off, set the maximum songs per guest, cap the queue size, and choose whether guests can see the full queue or just their own position.

🎉 Crowd Scoring

When crowd scoring is enabled, every audience member gets a chance to rate each performer after they finish. A 5-star rating modal appears automatically (with a skip option for those who'd rather not vote). Scores are averaged and displayed on the host's stats tab and in the cast view.

This is entirely optional. Some karaoke nights are about fun, not competition. But if you want to add a competitive edge — maybe with a prize for the highest-rated performer — scoring makes it easy.

🎉 Cast It to the Big Screen

Karaoke Mode works with Party Post's cast view. Open the cast URL on a TV or projector and the audience sees:

  • 🎈Now Performing — The current singer's name, song, and album art displayed prominently
  • 🎈Up Next — A sidebar showing who's coming up in the queue
  • 🎈Live Scores — Average rating for the current performer (when scoring is enabled)

The cast view is responsive, so it works on everything from a phone screen to a 65-inch TV. It also respects your room's dark mode and theme color settings.

🎉 It Shows Up in the Recap

After the event, karaoke highlights are automatically included in the recap email and recap web page. Participants see the total number of performances, the most requested song, and the top-rated performer (when scoring was enabled). It's a fun way to relive the highlights the morning after.

🎉 How to Set It Up

  1. 🎈Create a room or edit an existing one
  2. 🎈Toggle Enable Karaoke Mode in room settings
  3. 🎈Configure your preferences (approval mode, scoring, queue limits)
  4. 🎈Share the room code with your guests
  5. 🎈Hit Start when you're ready to kick things off

Karaoke Mode is available on all plans. The free plan supports the full feature set — song search, queue management, crowd scoring, cast display, and recap integration.

🎉 The Bottom Line

Karaoke has always been one of those activities that brings people together in a way nothing else does. Bad singers become crowd favorites. Shy guests suddenly own the room. Duets happen between people who just met.

Karaoke Mode gives you all of that without the hassle of renting equipment or passing around a binder. Just open Party Post, search for a song, and sing.
